About Sharpening Iron
Sharpening Iron/CGT is a group of men from the Cloquet Gospel Tabernacle, located on 14th Street and Washington Avenue in Cloquet, Minnesota. The name, Sharpening Iron is derived from Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (NIV)
Adventure for Men is prominent in our logo. The adventure that is being referred to is serving the Lord Jesus Christ. And to meet that goal, it is important that the men of the Tab get to know each other better, and have opportunity for service, fun, discipleship, outreach and fellowship. A central part of our group activities are the monthly meetings. We usually schedule the monthly meeting on the 1st Tuesday evening of the month at the Tab. We get together for coffee at 6:30 pm, and start the meeting at about 7:00 pm. We usually have some singing and a message of challenge and inspiration by one of the group or from a visitor, and we end in a time of prayer. It is one of our goals to have some fun activities from time to time to help men get connected to each other. For example, in July of 2009, SI sponsored a three day sea kayak trip to the Apostle Island area. Sixteen guys from SI and friends enjoyed the trip, which included times of devotionals. In August of 2010, eleven of us went on a three day canoe trip on Frear Lake, not too far from Tofte, MN. In August of 2011, a bunch of the guys and a few sons had a fishing, camp-out at Scenic State Park near Bigfork, MN We are exploring ways to serve too. In December of 2009 and in 2010, Lee Harris organized Toy Drives for the needy. This was a blessing and a great success. In the spring of 2010, we collected eleven wheelchairs for Haiti earthquake victims, and brought them to the Ironwood Springs Ranch near Rochester, MN for shipment to Haiti. This March we had a fishing fun(d)raiser for water wells in Tanzania. Study and learning in a small group setting is also important. This past two winters, John Donicht lead a small group studying the books, “How to Love your wife as Christ Loved the Church”, and "The Measure of a Man". This year, Lee Harris, John Donicht and Jaramie Logelin are leading a small group on the book "Follow Me". If you are interested in getting email messages on group activities, email sharpeningiron@gmail.com and ask to be put on the contact list. In Christ, Ted |
